SPT App

The Serialisation and Product Tracking app provides centralised oversight of batches of medicines between warehousing and release to pharmacies. It was introduced to replace a previous system which relied on multiple databases and applications and some non-digital processes. The app empowers multiple actors involved in the SPT process to quickly check on the status of a batch by either scanning a product barcode or searching by product codes or batch numbers.

It plays an important part in the effort to combat counterfeiting of medicines and it also prevents the release of decommissioned batches. Users enjoy the interconnectivity of a messaging system which keeps the relevant people up to date on alerts and issues concerning certain batches. The app needed to present data in such a way as to be useful to both SPT-savvy power users and more peripheral players in the process. It also provides ready access to SPT-related resources and supporting documentation.

Preceding initial research and design ideation, a phase of strategic thinking sought to determine an initial MVP and then to plan subsequent feature releases in line with business goals and objectives and balanced with end user needs.
